The Metropolitan Historic Structures Association, founded in 1976, is a non–profit coalition of historic organizations, institutions and individuals concerned with the preservation, interpretation and public use of historic structures and sites in all boroughs of New York City and neighboring counties in New York State and New Jersey. Member organizations own, maintain or share an interest in preserving numerous historic structures, house museums and landmarked properties including houses of worship.
The goals of MHSA are as follows:
1) to promote increased public appreciation and involvement with the city’s
historic and architectural heritage
2) to serve its members as a clearinghouse for information regarding the management
of their sites by providing technical and resource information
3) to represent members’ views on significant issues regarding historic preservation
4) to publicize members’ programs
By acting as an umbrella organization for house museums and historic sites, we are working to ensure through educational programs developed by our organization and its members that present and future generations will have the appreciation of their historic heritage. Many of our house museums serve school age populations, minority communities, tourists and scholars. Our programs are geared to inform our members in a convenient and cost–efficient way about conservation and restoration issues.
