Metropolitan Historic Structures Association was founded in 1978 by Ann B. Wood and a group of concerned citizens from the New York City metropolitan area to identify and confront problems facing historic sites that had been overlooked for decades: small house museums and other historic structures.
In 1991, we published "Glimpses of Old New York", a guidebook to New York City's historic houses and sites. "Glimpses…" was reissued in 2000 and included 92 historic houses/sites.
MHSA regularly produces seminars and symposia on topics of concern to its constituent organizations including conservation, care, and volunteers.
MHSA now represents 102 house museums, historic sites, and houses of worship in the New York tri–state area.
MHSA's important work has been recognized with funding from such sources as the J.M. Kaplan Fund, New York State Council on the Arts, American Express Foundation, Con Edison, and the Robert Sterling Clark Foundation.
